

Lisa Kinel, LMSW is a psychotherapist with advanced training in couples and family therapy. She received her certification from the Institute of Contemporary psychotherapy (ICP), which included trainings from Terry Real, Esther Perel, the Gottmans and others. Her training at ICP also included a comprehensive understanding of the effects of trauma on individuals and how to best utilize specific clinical interventions to help individuals and couples heal. Lisa is also is a certified yoga and mindfulness meditation instructor. Lisa’s experience teaching yoga and meditation has provided her with a deep understanding of the mind body connection. Lisa provides emotional support and cognitive tools to help individuals, couples and families move forward during challenging times. Lisa sees her role as a collaborator – prioritizing and respecting clients’ goals, and works with her clients to discover new ways to find meaning and build personal changes utilizing a holistic approach, with an emphasis on relational and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Helping individuals gain a deeper understanding of and working through internal and relational difficulties, especially during uncertain times, is key to cultivating a more grounded and fulfilling life. Lisa strives to create a supportive, affirmative, and motivating relationships with clients that is crucial for facilitating meaningful healing and change.
Lisa was born in Kansas and lived in Washington, DC, New Jersey, and New York. Lisa began her career as a management consultant at KPMG, but always felt a pull towards psychotherapy and switched careers to pursue her passion. She also loves teaching yoga and meditation. She believes that yoga is meant to be fun and done with a light and joyful heart. Lisa also enjoys baking and cooking with her kids. She enjoys the creativity and experiments with different recipes, which sometimes can lead to some interesting dishes. Lisa also loves reading everything, especially autobiographies, fiction and cookbooks. You can also always catch Lisa at a concert. The energy that the artist provides for the audience can be electrifying. Some of Lisa’s favorite live bands are Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (Thunder Road is her all time fav song!), Patti Smith, and Mavis Staples…. just to name a few.
